Wider Horizons Events and Information

  1. Welcome new member Carol Butler (recruited by Audrey Hansen). Though retired from the City of Seattle in 2020, and from a startup in 2022, currently I spend my time on the board and as co-chair of the University District Rotary Club Community Service Committee, as well as a volunteering and supporting the Seattle Area Feline Rescue nonprofit. My Seattle family includes two daughters, Laura and Wendy, plus 2 nephews residing here. Living with me in my townhouse on Capitol Hill are Loblolly and Tamarack, 2 bonded feline sisters rescued in Eastern Washington. Contact Carol at carolbutler1701@live.com (New Member Directory to be published soon.)

4.    Women’s Coffee at Barbara Oswald’s home, Wednesday, February 21, 10:30 amBarbara’s address: 3217 S Hanford St. in Mt. Baker. I heard there will be homemade muffins! Barbara has five wide steps up to her garden gate, and then another four or five steps up to her front door (with handrails).  As you know, these gatherings are perfect opportunities to meet up old friends and make new ones.

5.       Thursday morning’s All-Member Zoom is happening, per usual, this Thursday, February 22, at 9:30 am. Sue Lerner will send out the link and questions on Wednesday.

6.       Dick Zerbe invites you to join him for a 5K walk/run along a level Cedar River Trail in Renton this coming Saturday, February 24 and/or the following Saturday, March 2 as well. I can take 4 people and we would leave about 8:00 or 8:15. Contact Dick at richardozerbe@gmail.com

7.       See the latest from John Rochford about his and Nick’s life (attached How Sweet It Is).

8.  Carla McLean is offering to lead a small workshop on Thursday, March 14, 2-4 pm, on making beaded jewelry for gifts or for yourself. Perhaps you have a “tween” age grandchild who would like to make jewelry? I have lots of beads to choose from (but not so many findings for earrings). I have made jewelry (using beads but also polymer clay and ShrinkyDink) for many years. The attached photo shows the gorgeous earrings Carla makes (exhibited at a Southeast Seattle Senior Center holiday bazaar). The workshop is open to the first 5 people who sign up to attend at Denise Klein’s new digs (see below for the address).
