Wider Horizons Events and Information

  1. Welcome our newest member Karen Graber. Her bio and contact information are attached, along with a new Member Directory.

  2. Postcarding to Swing States on Tuesday, September 3, 10:30 am. All scribes are welcome, all materials supplied. Oxbow Bakery, 2307 24th Ave East, side streets for parking. Our last postcarding event will be September 24. All are welcome!

  3. Men’s Coffee, Wednesday, September 4. Michael Kischner says: “On into Fall!  We'll be meeting for coffee and conversation this Wednesday at 10:30 at Victrola. Let me know if you need a ride.”

  4. Women’s Coffee is on Wednesday, September 4, 10:30 am at the home of Susan Fleischmann, 615 38th Ave.

  5. Thursday morning’s All-Member Zoom is happening, per usual, this Thursday, September 5, at 9:30 am. Sue Lerner will send out the link and questions on Wednesday.

  6. Sunday Arboretum Walk, September 8, led by Dick Zerbe. Meet at 9 am at the Graham Visitors Center.

  7. We have 30 now registered for our All-Member Picnic at 3 pm on Sunday, September 15 (just 2 weeks away). Remember, you can bring family…just let me know for purposes of purchasing. And let me know you want to attend if you haven’t already! I’ll re-send more information shortly beforehand.

  8. Life Plan Class: Our Life Plan class begins on Tuesday, October 15 (and runs for 5 two-hour, mostly every other week, sessions). We still have two openings. If you are single and wondering about your future, this is a great opportunity to do some planning with like-minded others. We have a wonderful professional facilitator, and our social worker Brandy McKinney also attends. We meet at 1 pm-3 pm at various Seattle Public Libraries (often Douglass-Truth). Contact me for more information.

  1. Jean Chen shared about the Pratt Open House this coming Saturday, September 7, 5 – 8 pm. See attached for details.

  2. From Gay Hoerler: Residents and community leaders in Capitol Hill are working to revive the Capitol Hill Community Council after it dissolved during the pandemic. The council’s first meeting, where organizers hope to nail down its functions, is set for Tuesday, September 10, 6:30 pm at the Capitol Hill Public Library branch. 

  3. Naomi Shiff told us about the Arboretum Fall Plant Sale (immediately before our picnic on Sunday, September 15: Fall Plant Sale - Arboretum Foundation

  4. Richard Zerbe wrote an instructive blog about inflation (see attached).
