Monday Morning Memo - 8.26.24

Wider Horizons Events and Information

  1. Regarding our Picnic planned for Sunday, September 15: If we don’t get more than the 21 RSVPs we have so far, we will probably cancel or change the venue to someone’s home. The reasons for lack of interest may include the fact that we are requiring testing at all our member-wide events, even those that are outdoors, until there is a new vaccine that we get. A picnic is a whole lot of work and the cost/benefit ratio for just 20 or so people isn’t a good one. So let me know if you are planning to attend.

  2. Life Plan Class: Our Life Plan class that begins on Tuesday, October 15 (and runs for 5 two-hour, mostly every other week, sessions), has a few openings. If you are single and wondering about your future, this is a great opportunity to do some planning with like-minded others. We have a wonderful professional facilitator. Contact me for more information.

  3. Postcarding to Swing States on Tuesday, August 27, 10:30 am. All scribes are welcome, all materials supplied. Oxbow Bakery, 2307 24th Ave East, side streets for parking. Our last postcarding event will be September 24.

  4. Thursday morning’s All-Member Zoom is happening, per usual, this Thursday, August 29, at 9:30 am. Sue Lerner will send out the link and questions on Wednesday.

  5. Sunday Arboretum Walk, September 1, led by Dick Zerbe. Meet at 9 am at the Graham Visitors Center.

  6. Happy Hour at Jimmy’s this Sunday, September 1, 4-6 pm.

  7. The September Men’s Coffee dates are as follows: First Wednesday (Michael), September 4 at 10:30 at Victrola; Third Friday (Charles), September 20 at 10:30 at Victrola.

  8. The next Women’s Coffee is on Wednesday, September 4, 10:30 am at the home of Susan Fleischmann.

  9. The Healthy Aging Zoom workshop will be on Wednesday, August 28th at 4:30 pm.  The joint topic:  Kidney Disease Concerns AND How to Work with Your Doctor.  The link is https://us02web.zoom.us/j/86548779100?pwd=Yk5iMFp4WnRuWXVUSldyMEtSK0kwUT09

Sharing

  1. Andy Miller would like to see you at a fundraiser for a good cause that features another of our members, Jannie Spain, singing jazz tunes. I’m going and would be happy to give a ride to a couple of people. See the attached announcement for the details and how to buy your ticket.
